RESUMO

Hepatectomy is still the major curative treatment for patients with liver malignancies. However, it is still a big challenge to remove the tumors in the central posterior area, especially if their location involves the retrohepatic inferior vena cava and hepatic veins. Ex vivo liver resection and auto-transplantation (ELRA), a hybrid technique of the traditional liver resection and transplantation, has brought new hope to these patients and therefore becomes a valid alternative to liver transplantation. Due to its technical difficulty, ELRA is still concentrated in a few hepatobiliary centers that have experienced surgeons in both liver resection and liver transplantation. The efficacy and safety of this technique has already been demonstrated in the treatment of benign liver diseases, especially in the advanced alveolar echinococcosis. Recently, the application of ELRA for liver malignances has gained more attention. However, standardization of clinical practice norms and international consensus are still lacking. The prognostic impact in these oncologic patients also needs further evaluation. In this review, we summarized the principles and recent progresses on ELRA.

BACKGROUND: Fear of cancer recurrence is one of the psychological distresses that seriously affects the quality of life of breast cancer patients. However, the evidence for cognitive behavioral therapy on fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer is limited. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing breast cancer patients' fear of cancer recurrence. METHODS: Seven databases were searched for randomized controlled studies on cognitive behavioral therapy for fear of cancer recurrence in cancer patients from the inception of the database to April 30, 2023, with no language restrictions. Meta-analysis was performed using Stata MP 17. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool version 2 was used to assess the quality of the included studies. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation method. RESULTS: This review includes a total of 13 randomized controlled trials with 1447 breast cancer patients and survivors. When compared with controls, meta-analysis revealed that cognitive behavioral therapy significantly reduced the fear of cancer recurrence (g = -0.44; 95% confidence interval, -0.75 to -0.13; P < .001), whereas subgroup analysis revealed that only mindfulness-based cognitive therapy was significant. The overall risk of bias was high. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation assessment showed a low overall quality of evidence. CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive behavioral therapy may be effective in reducing fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer patients, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is particularly worthy of implementation. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy may be used as an additional strategy to help manage breast cancer patients' fears of cancer recurrence.

Interfacial solar vapor generation (ISVG) is an emerging technology to alleviate the global freshwater crisis. However, high-cost, low freshwater collection rate, and salt-blockage issues significantly hinder the practical application of solar-driven desalination devices based on ISVG. Herein, with a low-cost copper plate (CP), nonwoven fabric (NWF), and insulating ethylene-vinyl acetate foam (EVA foam), a multistage device is elaborately fabricated for highly efficient simultaneous freshwater and salt collection. In the designed solar-driven device, a superhydrophobic copper plate (SH-CP) serves as the condensation layer, facilitating rapid mass and heat transfer through dropwise condensation. Moreover, the hydrophilic NWF is designed with rational hydrophobic zones and specific high-salinity solution outlets (Design-NWF) to act as the water evaporation layer and facilitate directional salt collection. As a result, the multistage evaporator with eight stages exhibits a high water collection rate of 2.25 kg m-2 h-1 under 1 sun irradiation. In addition, the desalination device based on the eight-stage evaporator obtains a water collection rate of 13.44 kg m-2 and a salt collection rate of 1.77 kg m-2 per day under natural irradiation. More importantly, it can maintain a steady production for 15 days without obvious performance decay. This bifunctional multistage device provides a feasible and efficient approach for simultaneous desalination and solute collection.

The chemical constituents of ethyl acetate from Hypericum himalaicum were isolated by silica gel column chromatography, gel column chromatography, and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the isolated compounds was identified by modern spectral techniques(NMR, MS, IR, and UV), and the potential anti-inflammatory targets and action pathways were analyzed and predicted by network pharmacology and molecular docking methods.Ten compounds were isolated from H. himalaicum and identified as 5,9,11-trihydroxy-3,3-dimethyl-3H,8H-benzo[6,7][1,4]dioxepino[2,3-f]chromen-8-one(1), betulinic acid(2), demethyltorosaflavone C(3), kaempferol(4), quercetin(5), hyperwightin B(6), toxyloxanthone B(7), 1,7-dihydroxy-xanthone(8), emodin(9), and 1,7-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-xanthone(10). Among them, compound 1 was a new compound, and compounds 2-10 were isolated from H. himalaicum for the first time. Network pharmacology screened 60 key anti-inflammatory targets. By acting on TNF, AKT1, CASP3, and other key targets, involving PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, VEGF signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway, and other signaling pathways, and phosphorylation, cell migration and movement, protein tyrosine kinase, and other biological processes were regulated to achieve anti-inflammatory effects. The results of molecular docking show that the above components have good binding properties with the core targets.

Intelligent textiles provide an ideal platform for merging technology into daily routines. However, current textile electronic systems often rely on rigid silicon components, which limits seamless integration, energy efficiency, and comfort. Chipless electronic systems still face digital logic challenges owing to the lack of dynamic energy-switching carriers. We propose a chipless body-coupled energy interaction mechanism for ambient electromagnetic energy harvesting and wireless signal transmission through a single fiber. The fiber itself enables wireless visual-digital interactions without the need for extra chips or batteries on textiles. Because all of the electronic assemblies are merged in a miniature fiber, this facilitates scalable fabrication and compatibility with modern weaving techniques, thereby enabling versatile and intelligent clothing. We propose a strategy that may address the problems of silicon-based textile systems.

The efficacy and safety of deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) in treating treatment-resistant depression (TRD) are unknown. Up to June 21, 2023, we conducted a systematic search for RCTs, and then extracted and synthesized data using random effects models. Five RCTs involving 507 patients with TRD (243 in the active dTMS group and 264 in the control group) were included in the present study. The active dTMS group showed significantly higher study-defined response rate (45.3% versus 24.2%, n = 507, risk ratio [RR] = 1.87, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.21-2.91, I2 = 53%; P = 0.005) and study-defined remission rate (38.3% versus 14.4%, n = 507, RR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.30-4.32, I2 = 58%; P = 0.005) and superiority in improving depressive symptoms (n = 507, standardized mean difference = -0.65, 95%CI: -1.11--0.18, I2 = 82%; P = 0.006) than the control group. In terms of cognitive functions, no significant differences were observed between the two groups. The two groups also showed similar rates of other adverse events and all-cause discontinuations (P > 0.05). dTMS is an effective and safe treatment strategy for the management of patients with TRD.

PURPOSES: To investigate the effect and safety of ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for fertility preservation in female patients with hematological diseases. METHODS: We designed a retrospective study. The clinical data of patients with hematological diseases undergoing OTC admitted to Peking University People's Hospital from April 2017 to January 2023 were analyzed and summarized. RESULTS: A total of 24 patients were included in the study, including 19 patients with malignant hematological diseases and 5 patients with non-malignant hematological diseases. The former included 14 patients with acute leukemia, 1 patient with chronic leukemia, and 4 patients with myelodysplastic syndrome, while the latter 5 patients were aplastic anemia (AA). 16 patients had received chemotherapy before OTC. The average age of 24 patients was 22.80 ± 6.81 years. The average anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) was 1.97 ± 2.12 ng/mL, and the average follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) was 7.01 ± 4.24 IU/L in examination before OTC. FSH was greater than 10.0 IU/L in 4 cases. The pre-OTC laboratory tests showed that the average white blood cell (WBC) count was (3.33 ± 1.35) × 109/L, the average hemoglobin was 91.42 ± 22.84 g/L, and the average platelet was (147.38 ± 114.46) × 109/L. After injection of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF), blood transfusion, and iron supplementation in pre-OTC treatment, the average WBC count was (4.91 ± 3.07) × 109/L, the average hemoglobin was 98.67 ± 15.43 g/L, and the average platelet was (156.38 ± 103.22) × 109/L. Of the 24 patients, 22 underwent laparoscopic bilateral partial oophorectomy and oophoroplasty, and 2 underwent laparoscopic unilateral oophorectomy. The average duration of OTC was 59.54 ± 17.58 min, and the average blood loss was 32.1 ± 41.6 mL. The maximum blood loss was 200 mL. There was no significant difference in WBC count and hemoglobin concentration after OTC compared to pre-OTC period. Only the platelet count after OTC surgery was significantly different from that before surgery ([134.54 ± 80.84 vs. 156.38 ± 103.22] × 109/L, p < 0.05). None of the 24 patients had serious complications after OTC. 2 patients had mild infection symptoms, but both recovered well. 23 patients underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) after OTC. The median and interquartile range from OTC to the pretreatment of HSCT was 33 (57) days, and the median and interquartile range from OTC to HSCT was 41 (57) days. Seven of them began pretreatment of HSCT within 20 days and began HSCT within 30 days after OTC. All patients were followed up. Of the 23 patients who underwent HSCT after surgery, 22 presented with amenorrhea and 1 with scanty menstrual episodes. Seven patients underwent hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after HSCT. A patient with AA underwent ovarian tissue transplantation (OTT) 3 years after HSCT and resumed regular menstruation 6 months after OTT. CONCLUSIONS: Ovarian tissue cryopreservation has a promising future in fertility protection in patients with hematological diseases. However, patients with hematological malignancies often have received gonadotoxic therapy before OTC, which may be accompanied by myelosuppression while patients with non-malignant hematological diseases often present with severe hemocytopenia. So perioperative complete blood count of patients should be paid attention to. There was no significant difference in the WBC count and hemoglobin concentration in patients with hematological diseases before and after OTC surgery, and the platelet count decreased slightly within the normal range. Infection is the most common post-OTC complication, and HSCT pretreatment can be accepted as early as the 10th day after OTC. OTC has no adverse effects on patients with hematological diseases and does not delay HSCT treatment. For young patients with hematological diseases, OTC is an effective method of fertility preservation.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stands as one of the most malignant tumors characterized by poor prognosis and high mortality rates. Emerging evidence underscores the crucial role of the B7 protein family in various cancers, including HCC. However, the involvement of the human endogenous retrovirus H long-terminal repeat-associated protein 2 (HHLA2, or B7-H5) in HCC remains unclear. Immunohistochemistry was employed to assess the differential expression of HHLA2 between HCC and normal liver tissues. A battery of assays, including CCK8, EdU, tablet clone-forming, Transwell, and wound healing assays, were conducted to elucidate the function and potential mechanisms of HHLA2 in the malignant biological behaviors of HCC. Additionally, a xenograft mouse model was established to evaluate the tumorigenicity of hepatoma cell lines exhibiting different HHLA2 expression levels in vivo. Western blot analysis was used to analyze HHLA2, secretory phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), and PI3K/AKT/mTOR levels. HHLA2 exhibited elevated expression in HCC tissues, correlating with poor tumor differentiation and shortened overall survival in HCC patients. In vitro experiments demonstrated that HHLA2 overexpression (OE) promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of hepatoma cells, while in vivo experiments revealed that HHLA2 OE enhanced HCC tumor growth. Conversely, inhibition of HHLA2 expression yielded the opposite effect. Downregulation of SPP1 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion induced by HHLA2 OE, and this effect was linked to the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Our findings indicate that HHLA2 promotes the proliferation, migration, and invasion of hepatoma cells via the SPP1/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, establishing it as a potential therapeutic target for HCC.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) uses nonlinear response signals to noninvasively detect magnetic nanoparticles in space, and its quantitative properties hold promise for future precise quantitative treatments. In reconstruction, the system matrix based method necessitates suitable regularization terms, such as Tikhonov or non-negative fused lasso (NFL) regularization, to stabilize the solution. While NFL regularization offers clearer edge information than Tikhonov regularization, it carries a biased estimate of the l1 penalty, leading to an underestimation of the reconstructed concentration and adversely affecting the quantitative properties. In this paper, a new nonconvex regularization method including min-max concave (MC) and total variation (TV) regularization is proposed. This method utilized MC penalty to provide nearly unbiased sparse constraints and adds the TV penalty to provide a uniform intensity distribution of images. By combining the alternating direction multiplication method (ADMM) and the two-step parameter selection method, a more accurate quantitative MPI reconstruction was realized. The performance of the proposed method was verified on the simulation data, the Open-MPI dataset, and measured data from a homemade MPI scanner. The results indicate that the proposed method achieves better image quality while maintaining the quantitative properties, thus overcoming the drawback of intensity underestimation by the NFL method while providing edge information. In particular, for the measured data, the proposed method reduced the relative error in the intensity of the reconstruction results from 28% to 8%.

AIM: To investigate the association between cardiovascular health metrics defined by Life's Essential 8 (LE8) scores and vascular complications among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study included 11 033 participants with T2D, all devoid of macrovascular diseases (including cardiovascular and peripheral artery disease) and microvascular complications (e.g. diabetic retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy) at baseline from the UK Biobank. The LE8 score comprised eight metrics: smoking, body mass index, physical activity, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin, diet and sleep duration. Cox proportional hazards models were established to assess the associations of LE8 scores with incident macrovascular and microvascular complications. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 12.1 years, we identified 1975 cases of incident macrovascular diseases and 1797 cases of incident microvascular complications. After adjusting for potential confounders, each 10-point increase in the LE8 score was associated with an 18% lower risk of macrovascular diseases and a 15% lower risk of microvascular complications. Comparing individuals in the highest and lowest quartiles of LE8 scores revealed hazard ratios of 0.55 (95% confidence interval 0.47-0.62) for incident macrovascular diseases, and 0.61 (95% confidence interval 0.53-0.70) for incident microvascular complications. This association remained robust across a series of sensitivity analyses and nearly all subgroups. CONCLUSION: Higher LE8 scores were associated with a lower risk of incident macrovascular and microvascular complications among individuals with T2D. These findings underscore the significance of adopting fundamental strategies to maintain optimal cardiovascular health and curtail the risk of developing diabetic vascular complications.

BACKGROUND: Cancer stem cells (CSC) play an important role in the development of Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (LIHC). However, the regulatory mechanisms between acetylation- associated genes (HAGs) and liver cancer stem cells remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To identify a set of histone acetylation genes (HAGs) with close associations to liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs), and to construct a prognostic model that facilitates more accurate prognosis assessments for LIHC patients. METHODS: LIHC expression data were downloaded from the public databases. Using mRNA expression- based stemness indices (mRNAsi) inferred by One-Class Logistic Regression (OCLR), Differentially Expressed Genes (DEGs) (mRNAsi-High VS. mRNAsi-Low groups) were intersected with DEGs (LIHC VS. normal samples), as well as histone acetylation-associated genes (HAGs), to obtain mRNAsi-HAGs. A risk model was constructed employing the prognostic genes, which were acquired through univariate Cox and Least Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression analyses. Subsequently, independent prognostic factors were identified via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and then a nomogram for prediction of LIHC survival was developed. Additionally, immune infiltration and drug sensitivity analysis were performed to explore the relationships between prognostic genes and immune cells. Finally, the expressions of selected mRNAsi-HAGs were validated in the LIHC tumor sphere by quantitative Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) assay and western blot analysis. RESULTS: Among 13 identified mRNAsi-HAGs, 3 prognostic genes (HDAC1, HDAC11, and HAT1) were selected to construct a risk model (mRNAsi-HAGs risk score = 0.02 * HDAC1 + 0.09 * HAT1 + 0.05 * HDAC11). T-stage, mRNAsi, and mRNAsi-HAGs risk scores were identified as independent prognostic factors to construct the nomogram, which was proved to predict the survival probability of LIHC patients effectively. We subsequently observed strongly positive correlations between mRNAsi-HAGs risk score and tumor-infiltrating T cells, B cells and macrophages/monocytes. Moreover, we found 8 drugs (Mitomycin C, IPA 3, FTI 277, Bleomycin, Tipifarnib, GSK 650394, AICAR and EHT 1864) had significant correlations with mRNAsi-HAGs risk scores. The expression of HDAC1 and HDAC11 was higher in CSC-like cells in the tumor sphere. CONCLUSION: This study constructed a mRNAsi and HAGs-related prognostic model, which has implications for potential immunotherapy and drug treatment of LIHC.

Most arthropod-borne viruses produce intermittent epidemics in infected plants. However, the underlying mechanisms of these epidemics are unclear. Here, we demonstrated that rice stripe mosaic virus (RSMV), a viral pathogen, significantly increases the mortality of its overwintering vector, the leafhopper species Recilia dorsalis. Cold-stress assays indicated that RSMV reduces the cold tolerance of leafhoppers, a process associated with the downregulation of leafhopper cuticular protein genes. An RSMV-derived small RNA (vsiR-t00355379) was found to facilitate the downregulation of a leafhopper endocuticle gene that is mainly expressed in the abdomen (named RdABD-5) and is conserved across dipteran species. The downregulation of RdABD-5 expression in R. dorsalis resulted in fewer and thinner endocuticle lamellae, leading to decreased cold tolerance. This effect was correlated with a reduced incidence rate of RSMV in early-planted rice plants. These findings contribute to our understanding of the mechanism by which viral pathogens reduce cold tolerance in arthropod vectors and suggest an approach to managing the fluctuating prevalence of arboviruses. IMPORTANCE: Increasing arthropod vector dispersal rates have increased the susceptibility of crop to epidemic viral diseases. However, the incidence of some viral diseases fluctuates annually. In this study, we demonstrated that a rice virus reduces the cold tolerance of its leafhopper vector, Recilia dorsalis. This effect is linked to the virus-derived small RNA-mediated downregulation of a gene encoding a leafhopper abdominal endocuticle protein. Consequently, the altered structural composition of the abdominal endocuticle reduces the overwinter survival of leafhoppers, resulting in a lower incidence of RSMV infection in early-planted rice plants. Our findings illustrate the important roles of RNA interference in virus-vector insect-environment interactions and help explain the annual fluctuations of viral disease epidemics in rice fields.

The valorization of electroplating sludge (ES) for high added value presents greater economic and environmental benefits than conventional treatment methods such as thermal processing, solidification, and landfill. Inspired by the mechanism of chemical looping combustion (CLC), this study developed a novel cost-effective method for denitrification by preparing FeNi-OCs from ES to achieve the synergistic reduction of CO and NO emissions. The phase structure, micromorphology, and valence state changes of the FeNi-OC catalyst during the CO-catalyzed reduction of NO and the pathway for catalytic denitrification using FeNi-OCs were analyzed. Results showed that CO could reduce FeNi-OCs to FeNi, and the reduced FeNi was subsequently oxidized back to FeNi-OCs by NO, a process analogous to CLC. During experiments, the simultaneous consumption of CO and NO gases was observed at 350 °C. This phenomenon was highly pronounced at 600 °C, where the CO and NO concentrations decreased from initial values of 8550 and 470 ppm, respectively, to 6719 and 0 ppm, respectively, with conversion rates of 21.41 % and 100 %, respectively. Hence, synergistic emission reduction was achieved. Further experiments also indicated that the addition of 1.5 % ES during iron ore sintering could substantially reduce the CO and NO concentrations in the sintering flue gas from 1268.32 and 244.81 ppm, respectively, to 974.51 and 161.11 ppm, respectively.

Receptor kinases DRUS1 (Dwarf and Runtish Spikelet1) and DRUS2 are orthologues of the renowned Arabidopsis thaliana gene FERONIA, which play redundant roles in rice growth and development. Whether the two duplicated genes perform distinct functions in response to environmental stress is largely unknown. Here, we found that osmotic stress (OS) and ABA increased DRUS1 expression while decreasing DRUS2. When subjected to osmotic stress, the increased DRUS1 in drus2 mutants suppresses the OsIAA repressors, resulting in a robust root system with an increased number of adventitious and lateral roots as well as elongated primary, adventitious, and lateral roots, conferring OS tolerance. In contrast, the decreased DRUS2 in drus1-1 mutants are not sufficient to suppress OsIAA repressors, leading to a feeble root system with fewer adventitious and lateral roots and hindering seminal root growth, rendering OS intolerance. All these findings offer valuable insights into the biological significance of the duplication of two homologous genes in rice, wherein, if one is impaired, the other one is able to continue auxin-signaling-mediated root growth and development to favor resilience to environmental stress, such as water shortage.

METHODS: A total of 72 paraffin wax-embedded tissue sections were pathologically and clinically diagnosed as CD or ITB. Paraffin wax-embedded tissue sections were attached to a metal coating and measured using attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared spectroscopy at mid-infrared wavelengths combined with XGBoost for differential diagnosis. RESULTS: The results showed that the paraffin wax-embedded specimens of CD and ITB were significantly different in their spectral signals at 1074 cm-1 and 1234 cm-1 bands, and the differential diagnosis model based on spectral characteristics combined with machine learning showed accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of 91.84%, 92.59%, and 90.90%, respectively, for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB. CONCLUSION: Information on the mid-infrared region can reveal the different histological components of CD and ITB at the molecular level, and spectral analysis combined with machine learning to establish a diagnostic model is expected to become a new method for the differential diagnosis of CD and ITB.

RESUMO

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a prevalent form of lung cancer. Patients with advanced NSCLC are currently being treated with various therapies, including traditional radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapy. However, a considerable proportion of advance patients who cannot benefit from them. Consequently, it is essential to identify a novel research target that offers an encouraging perspective. The stimulator of interferon genes (STING) has emerged as such a target. At present, it is confirmed that activating STING in NSCLC tumor cells can impede the proliferation and metastasis of dormant tumor cells. This review focuses on the role of STING in NSCLC treatment and the factors influencing its activation. Additionally, it explores the correlation between STING activation and diverse therapy modalities for NSCLC, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapy. Furthermore, it proposes the prospect of innovative therapy methods involving nanoparticles, with the aim of using the features of STING to develop more strategies for NSCLC therapy.

Edible mushroom Antrodia cinnamomea is distinctive for its use in many health supplement products in relieving of diverse health-related conditions. A. cinnamomea is known for its rich array of bioactive secondary metabolites, predominantly terpenoids, that possess anti-inflammatory properties. Despite the abundance of these compounds, only some compounds have demonstrated notable anti-inflammatory activity. Moreover, there is a lack of established quality control methods specifically tailored to the active constituents of these products. Consequently, there is a great need for the development of precise and effective quality control methods for A. cinnamomea-based products, targeting their active components to ensure the consistency and reliability of these products in harnessing their anti-inflammatory potential. Herein we report a quantitative HPLC method for better evaluating the quality of A. cinnamomea based dietary supplements. Based on their bioactivities, we selected ten benchmark compounds, i. e. antcin K, (25S)-antcin H, (25R)-antcin H, (25R)-antcin C, (25S)-antcin C, (25R)-antcin A, 15α-acetyl-dehydrosulphurenic acid, versisponic acid D, dehydroeburicoic acid, and eburicoic acid and developed and validated a HPLC-UV method for quantification of these compounds simultaneously with high sensitivity, linearity and range, precision, and accuracy. Furthermore, we applied our method to quantify the commercially available A. cinnamomea containing supplements and found that the quality of these supplements varies greatly with only one product containing good amount of the active compounds. Our method provides a needed solution to quality control problem of the highly priced A. cinnamomea food and nutraceutical products that show great variety and inconsistency.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is a means to procure adequate specimens for histological and cytologic analysis. The ideal EUS-FNA should be safe, accurate, and have a high sample adequacy rate and low adverse events rate. In recent years, many guidelines and trials on EUS-FNA have been published. The purpose of this article is to provide an update on the influence of some of the main factors on the diagnostic efficiency of EUS-FNA as well as a rare but serious complication known as needle tract seeding.

The present research adopts ERP (Event-Related Potentials) technology to investigate whether there exists a concreteness effect in the processing of Chinese action verbs within metaphorical context. The mean amplitudes of N400 activated by action metaphors were compared with those activated by literal verbs and abstract verbs. The findings indicated that the Met verbs evoked a significantly larger N400 response at frontal brain region compared to the Abs verbs at a time window 200-500 ms, while the Met verbs elicited a notably greater N400 amplitude specifically at the posterior brain region in comparison to the Lit verbs at 300-500 ms time window. These results may be interpreted as indicating that the comprehension of the Met verbs is based on the concrete action semantics.

Background: Neutrophils rapidly accumulate in large numbers at sites of tissue damage, exhibiting not only their well-known bactericidal capabilities but also playing crucial roles in angiogenesis and tissue repair. While exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HucMSC-Exo) have emerged as a promising therapeutic tool, their exact mechanisms of action remain partly elusive. We hypothesize that HucMSC-Exo treatment may modulate neutrophil phenotypes, thereby significantly influencing wound healing outcomes. Methods: HucMSC-Exo were isolated via ultracentrifugation and subsequently administered through subcutaneous injection into full-thickness cutaneous wounds in mice. To determine the impact of host neutrophils on the healing effects of HucMSC-Exo in skin injuries, strategies including neutrophil depletion and adoptive transfer were employed. Flow cytometry was used to evaluate the proportion of N2 subtype neutrophils in both normal and diabetic wounds, and the effect of HucMSC-Exo on this proportion was assessed. Furthermore, the mitochondrial metabolic reprogramming driven by HucMSC-Exo during N2 polarization was investigated through JC1 staining, ATP quantification, fatty acid uptake assays, and assessment of FAO-related genes (Cpt1b, Acadm, and Acadl). Results: Depleting host neutrophils strikingly dampened prohealing effect of HucMSC-Exo on skin injury, while adoptive transfer of bone marrow neutrophils rescued this process. During normal healing process, some neutrophils expressed N2 markers, in contrast, diabetic wounds exhibited a reduced expression of N2 markers. After treatment with HucMSC-Exo, most neutrophils increased the phosphorylation of STAT6, leading to mitochondrial metabolic reprogramming and thus acquired an N2 phenotype. These N2 neutrophils, polarized by HucMSC-Exo, boosted the release of proangiogenic factors, particularly BV8, a myeloid cell-derived proangiogenic factor, and induced angiogenesis thereby favoring tissue restoration. Conclusion: This research uniquely demonstrates the identification of N2 neutrophils in skin injury and shows that HucMSC-Exo could skew neutrophils toward N2 phenotype, enhancing our insight into how cells react to HucMSC-Exo.
